The Kosova Education Center (KEC) is the most prominent education NGO in UNMIK/Kosovo, established in 2000 by the Soros Foundation. KEC focuses on teacher training, education research and consultancy in education. It operates a number of teacher training programs, developed to contribute to current reforms in the educational system. So far, these programs have reached more than 14,000 practicing teachers in UNMIK/Kosovo and are recognised by the Ministry of Education as requirements for the teacher certification. KEC has participated in research projects on the national and regional level and has produced numerous technical reports and publications related to that work. KEC has also offered consultancy services to the governmental and non-governmental sector in UNMIK/Kosovo, as well as to a number of international agencies.
KEC has managed to raise most of its funds from other international, governmental and non-governmental entities, among them: the World Bank, UNICEF, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Austrian Government, the Finnish Government, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the Government of the United States of America, Save the Children, International Rescue Committee, the Irish Government, etc. In the last couple of years, KEC has successfully implemented a number of consultancy contracts in accordance with the Ministry of Education, most of them related to teacher training and education policy development.
Vision: Development of an effective and all-inclusive education system which contributes to the sustainable economic and social development of the country by preparing citizens to become lifelong learners and to participate actively in democratic life.
Mission: To develop the capacity for advancing the education system by providing high quality services and resources and by cooperating actively with all stakeholders in and outside the country.
