Founded in 1992, TIS started as a economic grouping of companies with the main objective of supporting the Lisbon subway (Metropolitano de Lisboa) and Public Transport operator of Porto (STCP, Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto) in their strategic development efforts. After that phase, the company was relaunched in January, 2000 as TIS.pt – Consultores em Transportes Inovação e Sistemas, S.A.. a public limited liability company. In fact, TIS had transformed itself into a fully fledged consultancy, operating in domestic and international markets and working on a much wider spectrum of transport problems than those traditionally associated with Urban Public Transport. Our name is recognised in international transport consultancy and we have achieved consistent growth in turnover and in geographical reach. This evolution justified turning the company into a public limited liability company which would be the sole heir to the competence, traditions and experience of the former company, but now with the benefit of a greater equity and a more effective legal status in support of its evolution. Significant developments took place for the company’s evolution in 2002: internally, we achieved certification of the company’s quality management system, and externally we began a process of geographic and thematic expansion of the activities of the TIS group, with the opening of TIS.BR in Brazil, with an identical mission and scope as those of the parent company and focussed on the South American market. In 2008 TIS is going through another decisive process in its history with the internal restructuring of the company and the clear definition of its strategy based on the following objectives: To fulfil the corporate mission; To create value; To promote the Sustainability of TIS; To ensure a strong Presence in the market; To focus on the Business Model.
