Celebrating the World Intellectual Property Day
April 26 is the World IP Day!
This is the occasion to acquire more information and knowledge about how intellectual property affects the development of economies around the world and so also in the Western Balkans!
In 2023, the celebration focuses on the “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work. Women in all regions are shaping the world through their imagination, ingenuity and hard work, but often face significant challenges in accessing the knowledge, skills, resources and support they need to thrive.
In the Western Balkans, several events and initiatives were organised.
The Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the project "EU Support for Intellectual Property Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina" financed by the European Union, is organizing a conference related to "Woman and Intellectual Property: Improving Innovation and creativity". During the conference, this year's prizes awarded by the Institute for Intellectual Property of BiH in cooperation with the project "EU Support for Intellectual Property Rights in BiH" is being presented. A Panel Discussion: Protection of Intellectual Property in the Digital Age was organised in North Macedonia and a dedicated Women in IP conference was organised in Serbia. In Belgrade, Ljiljana Matkovic, the owner of the company Eko Team, who was awarded a WIPO Enterprise IP medal in 2022 presented her experience and good practice as a panellist at the event organised by the Serbian Patent Office. The panel was dedicated to successful women innovators in entrepreneurship, science, art and crafts - promoting IP protection.
