The Centre for Southeast European Studies is seeking to appoint a Professor of Southeast European Studies with a Turkey focus (40 hours per week; fixed-term employment for 5 years pursuant to §99 (1) UG (Austrian Universities Act); Expected starting date 01 February 2014 )

Research and teaching responsibilities and focuses:

The Professor will be working at the juncture of Law and Humanities. The preferred research focus of the professorship is Turkey and its political and strategic role in relation to the EU, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Other fields of research include migration, gender and/or relations to other countries of Southeastern Europe. The ability to teach classes in English is expected.

Requirements for employment:

· Completion of an appropriate university degree in Law, Political Science, Humanities or Social Sciences 

· Habilitation or an equivalent qualification

· Excellent academic qualifications in research and teaching for the position to be filled

· Proficiency in academic teaching

· Leadership abilities and management skills

· International work experience, especially at a university in the region

· Knowledge of Turkish or very good knowledge of another language of the region

· Very good command of English

· Experience with externally funded research grants

 

It is expected profound knowledge of Turkey and/or Southeastern Europe and the ability to interdisciplinary research and teaching. Moreover, the candidate should be willing and able to make an active contribution to the autonomous academic administration at all levels. We also expect competence in the field of gender mainstreaming.

Classification:

Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): A1

Minimum salary:

The minimum salary according to the classification scheme of the collective agreement is EUR

4601.20 gross per month. Salary subject to negotiation.
