News archive - [Event Announcement] Equal opportunities for students with special needs in higher education - project and workshop in Alicante, Spain
Regarding Equal opportunities for students with special needs in higher education (EQOPP) project (TEMPUS), a workshop will take place on November 15, 2012 in Alicante, Spain. In order to secure smooth functioning of Support Offices, coordinators will learn about good practice examples from the University of Alicante and other EU partners (KaHo Sint-Lieven, WU Vienna). They will also visit Student Services offices at the University of Alicante and get acquainted with assistive technologies necessary for smooth functioning of Support Offices.
The Second Consortium Meeting will take place on November 16, 2012. This Consortium Meeting presents an opportunity for systematic analysis of activities implemented in first 12 months of EQOPP project. Consortium will also discuss future activities and fine tune work plan for the next 12 months of the project. Coordinators of the project will present reports on the individual performance of the project partners.
The main objective of this project is to support BH universities in improving quality and modernizing Higher Education by creating institutional capacities and developing policies and practices which will enable students with special educational needs (SEN) to study in BH universities. This objective corresponds to and supports the achievement of European standard the Bologna process, the Lisbon Declaration and the Framework Law on Higher Education in BH.
Specific project objectives are:
I. To provide analysis of the current situation for students with SEN in BH
II. To assure equal access to higher education in BH for students with SEN
III. To developed policies, institutional procedures and models of inclusion suitable for all BH universities
IV. To promote equal access and opportunities in secondary and higher education in BH
V. To encourage and establish network mechanisms between students with and without SEN, NGO disability organization and BH universities.
The project will be implemented within 36 months. Consortium of the project consists of 8 public universities in B&H (University of Tuzla, University of Bihać, University of Banja Luka, University of Mostar, University “Džemal Bijedić” of Mostar, University of Zenica, University of East Sarajevo, University of Sarajevo), 2 non-governmental organizations (Foundation for Higher Education SUS BiH and Association of Students with special needs and volunteers), 2 ministries (Federal Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Srpska) and 3 European partner universities (University of Alicante, KaHo Sint-Lieven, WU Vienna).
