AgroSense - Wireless Sensor Networks and Remote Sensing - Foundation of a Modern Agricultural Infrastructure in the Region
Through this Project, several objectives will be achieved, the first and foremost being the reinforcement and further development of MeTeP@ Centre. Both the scientific and technological basis of the Centre will be improved in order to provide sustainable research capabilities, to the benefit of the University, local community and the region. Another objective is coordination of research activities in the WBC region and within the consortium, which will help future participation in Framework Progammes. This will be achieved through intensive exchange of the know-how among the project partners. By the end of the Project we expect not only to create the environment capable to carry out substantial scientific and technological research, but also to enable newly developed agricultural infrastructure to operate with higher efficiency. Furthermore, networking with our partners will lead to prospective fruitful co-operation since economy of Italy and Slovenia also strongly relies on agriculture. These countries are some of the largest and strategically most important trade partners of Serbia and WBC region in area of agriculture and industry. Ultimately, the long term goal is the promotion of new technologies in the regional agricultural production and corresponding implementation.
-
Reinforcement of WBC research potential
By improving its material and human resources, the MeTeP@ Centre will be capable of expanding its research topics and the number of research activities, as well as to widen its impact to a larger geographical area, covering the entire agricultural region of the province of Vojvodina and the WBC region. Coordination of activities among participating scientific institutions in Serbia (FTS, FANS and IMP) will foster interdisciplinary nature of research conducted in WBC and significantly contribute to the knowledge base existing at MeTeP@.
-
Reinforcement of WBC and the region of convergence research potential
Trainings will be delivered by participants from the EU covering topics important for precision agriculture, corresponding to specific complementary expertise of participating institutions. In this way, synergy among partners will be created, transfer of know-how will be accomplished and significant knowledge base will be formed in the WBC region. Trainings and practical placements are foreseen for the staff from the region of convergence participating institution, which will increase their existing knowledge in specific scientific and technical fields of interest. Exchange and practical placements of staff among the consortium members – Placements of researchers in other project partner’s institutions will allow them to acquire specific scientific and technical knowledge in the fields of interest.
-
Promoting closer S&T cooperation opportunities between Europe and WBC
Brain-gain environments will be favoured through trans-national two-way exchanges of research staff between centres established in the EU, EU’s convergence regions and in the WBC. Networking, training and placements will expose WBC researchers to advanced working environments and help them gain international experience, contacts and access to the state of the art knowledge and technology. Furthermore, getting acquainted with complementary skills such as various administrative and legislative procedures at each of the partners' institution will be an important issue. In that way, prerequisites for future joint research projects will be created.
-
Support to WBC participation in Framework Programmes
By acquiring experience through this Project, WBC partner institutions will position themselves better for future participation in Framework Programmes, and will also be able to advise other research institutions in WBC region on all aspects of successful preparation, negotiation, management and finalization of future projects.
-
Contribution to sustainable research development of the WBC Centres
Reinforcement of MeTeP@ Centre foreseen in this project aims at ensuring its sustainability. In the future, the Centre will be able to conduct state of the art research at the European level, as well as to contribute to the agricultural infrastructure in the region. Mobilization of human and material resources combined with the dissemination and networking activities will raise the reputation of the MeTeP@ Centre and its Serbian partners to a level that will ensure a long term development. Furthermore, it will reinforce the employment capacity of the Centre and stimulate young researchers to continue living in Serbia and working in the field of high-tech agriculture.
-
Dissemination of the Project results
Dissemination will be performed on domestic, regional (WBC) and EU levels, and will target scientific community, regional law-making bodies, agricultural companies, farmers and student population. Two workshops devoted to specific topics will be held during the Project. Participation of researchers involved in the Project as well as researchers from other institutions in WBC region is foreseen. The most important results of the Project will be presented to the wider scientific community through participation in high impact conferences. Through specific promotional activities, we will try to influence the way agricultural companies and farmers look at the exploitation of the land. All results will also be available on the improved website of the Centre, with special pages dedicated to this Project, which enable dissemination of the knowledge and the project results to a wider population.
-
Influence on the governmental agricultural policy
The MeTeP@ Centre is working on provision of adequate scientific tools and services that will assist government in running a well defined and clear agricultural policy by means of strategic planning of agricultural production. Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture, Water Economy and Forestry of Vojvodina (PSAWF) is top ranked decision and law-making body in the Province of Vojvodina. Its participation in this Project will support implementation of the project results, namely foster the adoption of legal acts necessary for the intensive introduction of precision agriculture in Vojvodina.
