Building Bridges between EU Member and Candidate States in Maritime Research on Transport within the Frames of European Research Area

The EUROMAR-BRIDGES project contributes to the objectives of the FP6-2002-Transport-2 call, as well as to the objectives of the Sustainable Surface Transport Priority (Priority 1.6.2) of the FP6. The project also supports the objectives of the EU policy. The gathering the knowledge, state-of-art data and bringing Europe down to the people within the New Member States and Candidate Countries as well as in third countries as Russia, for pushing forward the cooperation activities between them and states coming from Old Europe, which are one of the key factors of accelerated economic growth at the EU level, is considered as flag objective of the EUROMAR-BRIDGES. EUROMAR-BRIDGES aims to contribute to the improvement of the competitive advantages of the EU maritime transport sector, including shipbuilding by the identification of potential valuable contributions from Candidate Countries, Russia and Turkey in maritime research and joined EU initiatives.

The project has the following strategic objectives:
- to increase the co-operation and intensify the efforts in R&D which are vital to improve competitiveness and technological excellence in maritime field by building the cluster comprised of Candidate, New Member and Third Countries
- to identify valuable R&D, SMEs, and other actors and stimulate, encourage and facilitate the participation of organizations from the Candidate Countries and New Member States by providing up-to-date information on maritime related projects
- to provide the contribution for Integrated and Sustainable Maritime Transport System by realizing and promoting the idea of ERA across the chain of stakeholders at national level
- to rise the awareness of benefits coming from commonly solving problems related to maritime transport
- to ensure a sustainable development and security of transport by active participation of organizations from NMS and CC in ERA instruments - to integrate and structure the maritime RTD base driving inno
