European Students Parliament - Debate Science

European Student Parliament is a project initiated by Wissenschaft im Dialog from Berlin with the goal to strengthen dialogue between students aged between 16 and 19 and scientific researchers in Europe.

Objectives

  • Strengthening the dialogue and exchange between students and scientists
  • Introducing students to parliamentary procedures on science and research
  • Enabling students to form a qualified opinion and to assess complex topics
  • Introducing students to a European community

Target Group

  • Students between 16 and 19 years old
  • School levels 10 to 12
  • Interest in the functioning of democratic systems
  • Interest in science and in learning about new topics,
  • Ambitions to share ideas in discussion
  • Sound knowledge of the English language

Topic

  • Overall Topic: The Future of the Human Being
  • 7 Subtopics
  • Each parliament with 5 selected subtopics and working groups

Organisation

  • 15-20 local (national) student parliaments
  • Taking place from Winter 2015/16 to Spring 2016
  • 60 to 100 participants at the national parliament
  • Delegation of students chosen for final student parliament
  • Final European student parliament during the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) in July 2016 in Manchester

Language

  • Conference language for the national/local parliaments: national language of each country
  • Final student parliament in Manchester: English
