European Innovation Partnership: Active and Healthy Ageing
The pilot European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing aims to increase the average healthy lifespan in the EU by 2 years by 2020.
It pursues a triple win for Europe:
- Improving the health and quality of life of Europeans with a focus on older people;
- Supporting the long-term sustainability and efficiency of health and social care systems;
- Enhancing the competitiveness of EU industry through business and expansion in new markets.
Why focus on ageing?
Active and healthy ageing is a societal challenge shared by all European countries, but also an opportunity. It is a chance for Europe to establish itself as a global leader that is capable of providing innovative solutions.
How to get involved in the EIP on AHA?
Marketplace members
The Marketplace is a platform for cooperation that can help you develop innovative ideas and initiatives within the EIP on AHA, by enabling you to:
- Find partners for an initiative
- Find an initiative to participate in
- Provide and search for information
- Get in touch with stakeholders
- Participate in discussions on the forum
- Promote events
- Create groups and private forums
Members are invited to submit initiatives, events, and documents for the library, which will be validated by the facilitator of the website. Newsworthy items are submitted to the news feed by the moderator. If you have any relevant news, best practice, or recent project achievements that you would like to be highlighted on the news feed, please send an email
All of these activities can help you to network, develop ideas and initiatives in order to apply to, and participate in, the Action Groups.
Action Groups
The Commission has launched Invitations for Commitment, open to all stakeholders, for the submission of projects or initiatives that support the specific actions identified in the Strategic Implementation Plan. If candidates meet the criteria (explained here), they will be invited to join an Action Group dedicated to working on a specific action.
A Commitment is a measurable and concrete engagement, such as a project or initiative, in support of an action, or a group of actions, that help achieve the objectives and deliverables identified in the Plan. To take part in an Action Group, the Invitation for Commitment requires the fulfilment of the Partnership criteria (i.e. engagement, inclusiveness and partnership, critical mass, delivery, advocacy).
There will be one Action Group for each specific action, and participants will commit to running a number of activities contributing towards the headline target through the development of an Action Plan.
The Invitations for Commitment was launched upon the adoption of the Communication and will remain open for at least two months, re-opening on a periodic basis.
Reference sites
Reference sites are regions, cities, integrated hospitals or care organisations that aim to provide a comprehensive, innovation-based approach to active and healthy ageing - and that provide concrete examples of their positive impact on the ground. Reference sites demonstrate synergies between different actions, breakthrough solutions within a short time frame, as well as the added value of a holistic approach.
