The Department of Development Studies at the University of Vienna puts its teaching and research focus on the transdisciplinary analysis and critique of global inequalities. It is concerned with theories of and approaches to social, political, economic and cultural developments in an international perspective.
Research areas
In the vain of thematic continuity, the research activities at the Department of Development Studies are based upon the past experiences of the Project International Development. Further elaborating and consolidating these activities, seven transdisciplinary research groups have been established: Transnationalization and Development; Human Rights/Rights based Development; bodies, gender, sex; Geographic and Political Determinants of Economic Development; Bridging Research and Policy; State and Nationhood; and Racism and Development Aid.
