Institute of Social Medicine is a constitutional unit of the Medical Faculty in Skopje and basic Institute where the Department/ Chair of Social Medicine is located. The framework of activities of the Institute includes educational, scientific/research and health professional-methodological activities. Within the framework of those basic activities, the Institute particularly acts in the area of: 1) social-medical aspects of certain diseases and groups of diseases and it’s prevention and control (health care/protection); 2) Organization of health protection and health care services; 3) Assessment of health status and health needs of population; 4) Family health and needs, health and social protection of specific vulnerable groups, particularly mother and child, adolescents, elderly, persons with special needs, rural and poor population, refugees etc.; 5) Health policy, programming and planning in the area of health care/protection; 6) Health economics, financing of health care and health insurance system, payment methods and regulation of providers; 7) Health education and health promotion; 8) Health systems analysis, quality of health care; 9) Family planning and population policy; 10) Health care management and health services delivery; 11) Research in History of Medicine; and 12) Participation in strategy development and health system reforms in the FYR of Macedonia.
