"The Swiss National Science Foundation - in the Service of Scientific Research
With its a federal mandate, the SNSF is Switzerland’s foremost institution in the promotion of scientific research. It supports research in all disciplines, from philosophy and biology to the nanosciences and medicine.
Established in 1952 as a foundation under private law, it has the autonomy it needs to promote independent scientific research.
The SNSF funds research which leads to new knowledge. It also promotes application oriented-research in various scientific fields. The main task of the SNSF is to evaluate the quality of research proposals submitted by scientists and to provide funding on the basis of priorities and available financial resources."
