Ever since it was created in 1666, the Academy has being resolutely committed to the advancement of science and has advised government authorities in those matters and issues deemed within its remit. It is a double calling that has been reinforced over time, as and when our knowledge-base itself progressed. Today, the Academy’s Members discharge their missions, to the Nation and the Academy's foundations, in standing committees and working parties set up by the Academy.

Joint Science Conference of the Western Balkans Process (JSC-WBP)

The French Académie des Sciences is involved in the Joint Science Conference of the Western Balkans Process, the initiative in the field of education, science, research and societal dialogue, and will host the 3rd Joint Science Conference in 2017.

The 1st Joint Science Conference was organised by the German National Academy Leopoldina in Halle and Berlin in 2015. The 2nd Joint Science Conference was held in Vienna in 2016, organised by the Austrian Academy of Science.
