News archive - European University Association agrees to assist in diploma certification between Kosovan and Serbian universities

The Council of the European Union announced on 22 November that EUA would be asked to assist in the process of certifying diplomas issued by Kosovan and Serbian universities in order to facilitate mobility in relation to further education and/or public employment.

The Council statement follows talks between Serbian and Kosovan delegations held last week in Brussels. Following this announcement, EUA is pleased to announce that it has agreed to assist in the process of certification of degrees. This will be done by an EUA Committee of Academic Experts on the basis of European good practice.

“EUA has agreed to this as it is to the benefit of its member universities and their students in the region, and fully in line with EUA’s mission and mandate in the European higher education integration processes,” says EUA Secretary General Lesley Wilson, adding that “EUA sees this as an opportunity for using the Bologna instruments such as ECTS and the Diploma Supplement in order to promote mutual recognition, better understanding and improved cooperation”.
