News archive - Swiss Government Scholarships for the Academic Year 2011-2012

The Swiss Government awards a range of scholarships to foreign students for university, fine arts and music schools through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students for the academic year 2011-2012.

Scholarships will be awarded to pursue postgraduate studies or research in Switzerland at a public funded university or recognised institution: Swiss universities and Federal Institutes of Technology, schools of music and fine arts and  universities of applied sciences (UAS).

Swiss Government Scholarships are for full time postgraduate studies (pre and post doctoral Research Fellowships, or Master degrees) in one of the Swiss Universities. Research fellowships will be given priority.

The scholarship always starts at the beginning of the academic year (from September to June). The scholarship is awarded for 1 academic year (9 months). For Master programs an extension is possible.It is not possible to start the scholarship in the Spring Semester or any other time in the year.

Swiss Government Scholarships holders must live in Switzerland. The scholarship is meant to cover a student's living expenses. Swiss Government Scholarship holders are also exempted from university fees in all Universities except at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (EPFL).

Residents of all Western Balkan countries are eligible under this programme.

Each country has its own application deadline. Usually it is around October or November. Please get in contact with the Swiss Diplomatic Representation in your home country in order to know their application deadline.
