The New Programmes for the new Structural Funds Period 2007 - 2013:

The South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme (SEE) is part of the new European Territorial Co-operation Objective for the programming period 2007 – 2013. Its general aim is to foster a balanced territorial development and territorial integration within the co-operation area.

The SEE Programme is one of the two spaces defined in the current CADSES (Central, Adriatic, Danubian and South-Eastern European Space) transnational cooperation area. The second defined space is the Central Europe Programme (CENTRAL).

The proposed eligible area for SEE comprises: Albania, Austria,  Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, fYR Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, parts of Italy, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Moldova and parts of Ukraine.

The new Programmes have a focus on the Lisbon and Gothenburg objectives and the urban dimension.

The SEE Programme is directed toward the development of adequate strategies of future development of cities, so to say, to make south east European cities places attractive to live and work in.

One of the Programme priorities is the development of transnational synergies for sustainable urban growth areas. The map of south east Europe shall include therefore several linked growth zones that would be mutually physically joined with infrastructures as well as with a human resource network.

The stakeholders of SEE can rely on experiences acquired within URBAN European Community Initiative that was launched in 1994 for the EU Member States.

The URBAN initiative focused on revitalizing poor and socially isolated urban communities and on creating new conditions for future investment.
