News archive - TransNEW Project Progress - opening transport research for associated countries

The TransNEW project aims to map the transport research potential in all the New Member and Associated States. It is now approaching its last six months, finishing in December 2011. The project progress is presented in the newsletter http://www.ncl.ac.uk/newrail/news/item/newrail-newsletter-july and includes also information about a regional workshop held in Serbia, focusing on the West Balkan region including Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bosnia Herzegovina. Another workshop in Turkey covered also Albania.

The country reports are almost finalised and the regional reports are being prepared. Four specific mode reports are being written concerning road, rail, aero and waterborne. Two regional workshops have been held in Serbia and Turkey. Four more are planned for the autumn in Lithuania, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia.

TransNEW - Regional Workshop Serbia
Hosted by UBMaF - the University of Belgrade, the theme of this workshop was the capabilities and capacities in the West Balkan region including Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bosnia Herzegovina.

Barriers and possible drivers of the transport research development in the region were identified and participants were presented with an overview of the transport research situation of the countries in the region and recommendations for improvement addressed to policy makers, researchers and all other transport actors.

TransNEW - Regional Workshop Turkey
Hosted by the Turkish Partners TUBITAK this workshop covered the capabilities and capacities in the South Balkan and Mediterranean region including Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta, Moldova, Romania, Turkey. All of the participants agreed that the number of research programmes currently in transport in this region is insufficient.

A final conference open to all TransNEW partners and all others with an interest in transport research is planned for November 2011 in Malta.
