News archive - GAINS Open Call for Living Labs

The European Satellite Navigation Competition awarded the best ideas for innovative satellite navigation applications on October 18, 2010. The organisers now call for proposals how to transform these ideas into commercial Innovations. Participate to the Open call for Living Lab reality check pilots and receive a funding contribution of up
to 20.000 Euros.

Submission deadline: January 15, 2011.

Supported by the FP7 project GAINS (Galileo Advanced INnovation Services), the first GNSS Living Lab Prize has been established as part of the European Satellite Navigation Competition 2010, aiming at connecting GNSS related ideas and business opportunities to the real life validation settings offered by Living Labs. In this context, Living Labs can provide GNSS Industry with use testing and validation services for new products/services/applications, while, at the same time, paving the way for the potential adoption of the experienced services. From 57 ideas that have been submitted from May to July 2010, three ideas have been selected as winners in the categories energy, health and media and have been awarded on 18 October 2010.

Conduct a reality check trial with one of the awarded ideas

The 2nd stage of the GNSS Living Lab Prize now calls for interested Living Labs to submit proposals for launching pilots for the three winning ideas, whose public description is enclosed to this Open Call. The proposing Living Labs shall demonstrate that they can offer the best validation environment for a specific idea, including the most promising prospect for its potential adoption and commercial exploitation.

This Open Call for Living Labs will select three Living Labs, who will get the opportunity of hosting a "reality check trial" with one of the winning ideas in their own Living Lab environment, with the involvement of relevant user communities and potential future customers. The selected Living Labs will thus benefit from the validation of the specific idea they bid for, with the aim of testing it in view of a potential adoption and, hence, to demonstrate the value and the benefits of the supported idea to the users. In addition, the three selected Living Labs will receive a co-funding for the pilot activities of up to 20,000 EUR each, upon signing a Contract Agreement with AZO, coordinator of the GAINS project.

The Living Labs responding to this call should:

* Be an established organisation,
* Have the capability to attract/mobilise additional resources in support of the specific proposed pilot and
* Demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed work plan and the ability to execute it in an effective, reliable fashion.
