ERC grants are awarded through open competition to projects headed by starting and established researchers, who are working or moving to work in Europe - the sole criterion for selection is scientific excellence. The aim here is to recognise the best ideas, and retain and confer status and visibility to the best brains in Europe, while also attracting talent from abroad.

The following grants are currently open:

  • Starting Grant for Life Sciences (closing on 10/12/2008)
  • Advanced Grant for Physical Sciences and Engineering (closing on 25/03/2009)
  • Advanced Grant for Social Sciences and Humanities (closing on 15/04/2009)
  • Advanced Grant for Life Sciences (closing on 06/05/2009)
