News archive - FP7: Project Synopsis on Social Sciences and Humanities - Funded projects of the first call

The European Commission has published a document presenting the list of proposals retained for eventual financing in the first call of FP7 - Cooperation in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities.

This document allows you to identify successful coordinators for your networking activities, it also informs about interesting projects ongoing in the respective fields (see list of research areas below) - results of which could maybe also be exploited in the Balkan region.

The following research areas were supported in this first call:

Activity 1 - Growth, employment and competitiveness in a knowledge society
Research area 1.1 - Changing role of knowledge throughout the economy
Research area 1.2 - Structural changes in the European knowledge economy and society
Activity 2 - Path towards sustainable development
Research area 2.1 - Socio-economic development trajectories
Research area 2.2 - Regional, territorial and social cohesion
Activity 3 - Major trends in society and their implications
Research area 3.1 - Demographic changes
Research area 3.2 - Societal trends and lifestyles
Research area 3.3 - Cultural interactions in an international perspective
Activity 4 - Europe and the world
Research area 4.1 - Interactions and interdependences between world regions and their implications
Research area 4.2 - Conflicts, peace and human rights
Activity 5 - The Citizen in the European Union
Research area 5.1 - Participation and citizenship in Europe
Research area 5.2 - Diversities and commonalities in Europe
Activity 6 - Socio-economic and scientific indicators
Research area 6.1 - How indicators are used in policy?
Research area 6.2 - Developing better indicators for policy
Research area 6.3 - Provision of underlying official statistics
Research area 6.4 - Use of indicators and related approaches for the evaluation of research policies and programmes

Topic 8.4 - Trans-national cooperation among National Contact Points (NCP) for Socio-economic sciences and Humanities

Some projects can be identified with a reference to SEE / WBC, for example:

  • GE.M.IC Gender, Migration and Intercultural Interactions in the Mediterranean and South East Europe: an interdisciplinary perspective. Proposal nr. 216065; coordinator Dr Maria STRATIGAKI, EL with project partner from the WBC: "EUROBALKAN" Institute, Skopje - Research Center in Gender Studies
  • JAD-PbP Just and durable peace by piece, Proposal nr. 217488; coordinator Dr Karin AGGESTAM, SE with a focus on the Middle East, the project will also examine and compare EU:s peacebuilding strategies in Western Balkans and the Middle East.

In the project NET4SOCIETY on trans-national co-operation among National Contact Points for Socio-economic sciences and the Humanities, the following WBC partners are involved:

  • Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of Croatia, Directorate for International Cooperation (Lada BENZON)
  • Ministry of Science of Serbia (Suzana VOJINOVIC)
  • Agency for International Scientific, Educational, Cultural and Technical Cooperation of Montenegro, Department for International Scientific and Technical Cooperation (Tamara TOVJANIN)
