Erasmus Mundus supports measures aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of and the interest in European higher education.

Erasmus Mundus will support measures aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of and the interest in European higher education. It will support activities that will improve the profile, the visibility and the accessibility of European higher education. Equally, it will support issues crucial to the internationalisation of higher education, such as the mutual recognition of qualifications with third countries.

Participation is open to institutions from all over the world.

The programme will also offer teaching or research scholarships in Europe for in-coming third-country academics and for a certain number of outgoing EU scholars.

The countries eligible to participate are: the 27 EU Member States; the candidate countries for the accession to the EU - Croatia, Former Republic of
Macedonia and Turkey; the countries of the European Free Trade Association/European Economic Area - Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; all the other countries of the world -Third countries.

Eligible participants are:
- Higher education institutions
- Other public or private bodies active in the field of higher education.

The total budget earmarked for the funding of projects is estimated at EUR 3,3 millions. The financial assistance cannot exceed 75 % of the total eligible costs.
Grants will vary according to the project size. Projects must start between 1 November and 15 December 2008 and will last for a maximum duration of 3 years.
