News archive - Doctoral candidates in European Union Studies

Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS), an interdisciplinary centre at Salzburg University is seeking candidates for 8 doctoral student positions and specifically wants to address candidates from the Western Balkan countries (nationality is not a criterion for the scholarships). Applications have to be submitted by February 29, 2008.
The SCEUS focuses on the following research question:
“Is there or should there be a distinctive European social model?”
The doctoral students will engage in supervised research on aspects of the above question that will ultimately result in a doctoral thesis and subsequent publication. The doctoral projects will be carried out in the framework of the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies. The scholarship starts in October 2008 and ends at the end of September 2011, i.e. it lasts 3 full years. Research students selected by the Admissions Committee will be eligible for a three-year scholarship (non-refundable) at the conditions of FWF-regulations. The Doctorate of the University of Salzburg is conferred on Students who have completed one of the doctoral studies programmes (Law or Social Sciences), either in the form of a Ph.D. (in Social Sciences such as Political Science, History etc.) or in the form of a J. D. (Doctor iuris).
Requirements:
- Master`s degree in Law or Social Sciences (e.g., History, Political Science, etc.). Candidates holding a master`s degree in Economics are also eligible to apply for the doctoral studies programme in Law (J.D.) or Social Sciences (Ph.D.)
- Nationality is not a criterion, internationality a positive one.
- Fluency in English
Application and selection process:
Candidates are invited to submit their written application no later than 29 February, 2008. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview by the end of March 2008.
