News archive - EIT public consultation on strategic research agenda

The EC has published a report of the responses to the public consultation on the development of the Strategic Innovation Agenda (SIA) for the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The consultation closed on 30 June and 187 contributions to the EIT SIA consultation were received. Of these, 134 of these were submitted via the online questionnaire while the remaining responses were submitted in the form of position papers.

The report explains that respondents generally showed strong support for the EIT’s mission and its role and felt that it provided added value in encouraging the integration of the knowledge triangle, in particular in terms of bringing education closer to research and innovation. The respondents highlighted the need to simplify the structure and processes of the EIT, increase the transparency of its workings and reduce the level of bureaucracy involved in applying for funding and running a Knowledge Innovation Community (KIC).

The results of the consultation also demonstrated a consensus that new KIC themes should be aligned with the priorities of Horizon 2020. The proposed future KIC themes receiving the most support from respondents included health, biotechnology, sustainable cities and ageing population. The responses are being used by the EC to feed into the development of the EC’s proposal for the EIT's Strategic Innovation Agenda, which is due to be adopted at the end of 2011.
