News archive - Event Announcement: European conference on cultural heritage research, Ljubljana, Slovenia

The 8th European conference on research for protection, conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from November 10-12, 2008.

The main objective of the CHRESP ('Cultural Heritage Research meets Practice') conference is to foster the exploitation of results from EU cultural heritage research. New technologies, tools and devices will be presented through talks, posters, exhibitions and practical workshops.

Four subject areas will be covered:
- recent progress in cultural heritage research;
- knowledge and technology transfer, from research to industry and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs);
- education and training, communication;
- policies, legislation, standardisation, and sustainability strategies in cultural heritage.

Interdisciplinary discussions among scientists, policy makers and end-users (e.g. conservators and restorers, managers and owners of the cultural patrimony) will help to identify future needs and develop funding strategies. Special attention will be devoted to pooling the expertise of key players in the field, such as ICOM-CC (International Council of Museums - Committee for Conservation), ICOMOS, ICCROM (International Council on Monuments and Sites), the Pan-European Federation for Heritage, EUROPA NOSTRA, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and others.

Ending on 12 November, the conference programme is complemented by two days of workshops and field trips (13 and 14 November).

CHRESP is organised by the National and University Library of Slovenia, the 'Construction Cluster' of Slovenia, and the University of Ljubljana in cooperation with the European Commission.
