News archive - Consultation on deforestation

The EC has launched a public consultation on deforestation and its impact on climate change and biodiversity loss. It seeks to gather opinions on a number of critical issues and policy options related to deforestation in developing countries. Deforestation in considered to be the largest source of greenhouse gas semissions in developing countries and worldwide the second most important contributor to climate change.

Interested parties - individuals as well as organisations - are invited to submit their contributions to policy development in the field of deforestation by August 22, 2008.

The outcome of the consultation process will be presented in an EC Communication at the end of 2008.
