News archive - Event Announcement: TRA2008 in Ljubljana

The mission of the Transport Research Arena (TRA) is to enhance the alignment of road transport research at European and national levels. It's upcoming conference will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, April 21-25, 2008.

TRA's aim will be achieved by networking and clustering Europe’s public and industrial research and development capacity. Based on a shared European Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) and Research Framework, TRA brings together all stakeholders: researchers, policy makers and end-users. These common activities will result in better implementation of research results and thus contribute to achieving the Lisbon strategy which envisages 3% of GDP spent for research in the European Union by 2010. The three main organisers of TRA fully complement this overall aim:

  • CEDR, whose members, being both regulating authorities and public clients possess the tools and the capacities to be important driving forces to implement the ERA.
  • The European Commission, being the main facilitator of pan-European research sees an opportunity for all key parties to meet, exchange and disseminate their needs and results.
  • ERTRAC is a body of crucial importance bringing together stakeholders from all sectors of road transport in creating and implementing a shared European Research Framework.

On the conference website, a specific added value of the Ljubljana 2008 event it is highlighted: greater participation of Southern European Countries, the EU New Members States (NMS) and Candidate Countries (CC), as well as other neighbouring European countries. Such active participation from across the continent will serve to reduce gaps between the levels of service of road transport for the benefit the overall competitiveness and cohesion of Europe.
