News archive - Economist Innovation Award

The Economist invites nominations for the annual prize recognising innovators. The deadline to submit nominations is April 7, 2008.

The Economist's seventh annual Innovation Summit will take place in London on October 31, 2008. Speakers from industry and academia will examine the latest trends in the management of innovation, from the laboratory to the marketplace. At an awards ceremony on October 30, 2008, successful innovators in a range of fields will be honoured.
Readers are invited to nominate outstanding innovators in seven categories:

  • bioscience
  • energy and the environment
  • computing and telecoms
  • "no boundaries" which includes materials science, nanotechnology and other emerging fields
  • consumer products
  • business process
  • social and economic innovation, a category that recongises individuals who have pioneered novel technologies and business models that improve everydays lives.

Nominees should be people, not companies, who are responsible for an innovation that has been a proven success in the past decade.

E-mail innovation@economist.com, giving the nominee's name, current affiliation and contact information, and a 100-word summary explaining why he or she deserves to win the award in a particular category.
Nominations can also be submitted at www.economicst.com/innovationawards.
