News archive - A project supported by the EU delivers recommendations for the development of agri-food research in the Western Balkan Countries

After two years of activity, the European Project BALKAN AGRO FOOD NETWORK (BAFN) published its final reports in April 2008.

The report forms part of the deliverables from "BALKAN AGRO FOOD NETWORK" (BAFN), a project which has been awarded financial support by the European Commission under the 6thFramework Programme. More detailed information can be found on the project website www.bafn.eu.

The BAFN project objective is to create a network of agri-food research groups, researchers andcompanies in the Western Balkan Countries (WBC) and to foster the cooperation in this fieldwith the European Union (EU) scientists.

An objective of BAFN is to establish recommendations on:
* The scientific fields from the agri-food sector that are suitable for cooperation and EU support
* Support mechanisms which could be implemented by the EU to help the development of the
research potential from the WBC in the area of agricultural and food research.

The BAFN priority setting exercise has also been presented to WBC-INCO.NET partners who concluded that it is "a very good example of what should be done in the region concerning the other thematics of FP7, in order to facilitate the cooperation between the EU and West Balkan Region."
