News archive - [Event Announcement] Symposium on Transatlantic EU-U.S. Cooperation on Innovation and Technology Transfer

The purpose of the EU-U.S. Symposium on Innovation and Technology Transfer is to increase mutual understanding and raise awareness on open innovation processes and structure and operations of the technology transfer and innovation systems in Europe and the U.S.

Deadline for registrations: February 25, 2011.

The Symposium will bring together technology transfer firms, major research organisations, technology and other related experts to discuss the open innovation paradigm, Innovation Union and its implications on EU-U.S. cooperation; development and management methods of open innovation by large companies, R&D Centers and Intermediaries; open innovation’s implications on Intellectual Property, Global Networks and national and regional policies, as well as good practice examples on selected topics of mutual interest including recommendations for tackling challenges to trans-Atlantic cooperation.

The Symposium is organised by the BILAT-USA Project, which aims to improve the awareness towards EU-U.S. Science & Technology cooperation through setting up a sustainable, knowledge based, and bi-regional dialogue platform between S&T key players as well as stakeholders from the EU-Member States, Associated countries and the U.S. The BILAT-USA Project is funded by the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme. More information is available at the project web-site: http://www.euussciencetechnology.eu/bilat-usa

The Innovation and Technology Transfer Symposium will be organised as a full day event, including plenary sessions as well as theme specific parallel sessions. The plenary sessions will highlight and discuss the opportunities and challenges faced in open innovation and technology developments in the EU and the U.S. Specific objectives include reflection on current trends in Europe and in the U.S., and the enhancement of dialogue as well as knowledge exchange between major stakeholders in the EU and the U.S.

The purpose of the parallel sessions is to promote knowledge-sharing practices in the selected topics and to contribute towards developing new strategies and modalities in future EU-U.S. collaboration on these topics. Parallel sessions will provide an overview on innovation and technology transfer financing, human capital as well as case studies on open innovation at company and project level.

Based on the presentations and discussions, suggestions and recommendations for further strengthening the EU-U.S. collaboration within these topics will be provided.

The Innovation and Technology Transfer Symposium will be held back to back with 2011 MIT Europe Conference "Innovation in a Networked World: Technology, People, and Places", which will take place on 23rd and 24th of March 2011. All participants of the Symposium on Transatlantic EU-U.S. Cooperation on Innovation and Technology Transfer are welcome to attend the larger conference on the next day, therefore allowing more time and opportunities for networking and interactions. The separate registration for the MIT Europe Conference has to be made here.
