News archive - Apply Now for the Berlin Summer School on “Publishing in Public Health”
Publishing in high-ranking international journals is one of the quality criteria in the assessment of scientific performance and also a prerequisite for career development. Publishing requires complex abilities which extend beyond mere expertise in a specific discipline and even students at the Master level are often too little equipped to fulfil these requirements. The Berlin School of Public Health (BSPH) wants to change that and therefor organises a Summer School on “Publishing in Public Health”.
Deadline: April 30, 2011.
The summer school is part of the DAAD funded project “Visibility of Public Teaching and Research in South-East European Countries” (financed through funds granted by the Federal Foreign Office).
Participants will receive input on all relevant aspects of scientific publishing. The summer school uses a very hands-on, practice-based approach, for which both face to face, as well as e-learning teaching methods will be used. The summer school will provide students with information on a wide spectrum of publishing-related aspects, such as
- citation standards;
- research quality criteria;
- systematic literature research methods and public health literature databases;
- use of English in scientific contexts;
- overcoming challenges in writing the various sections of a scientific article;
- requirements from the publisher’s perspective, authorship, the peer-review process, impact factors, etc.
The summer school seminars will be taught by experienced scientists from both German and South-east European universities. All costs will be covered for the participants.
