News archive - Proposals for new ‘Education Europe’ and ‘Creative Europe’ programmes

The EC has proposed a new programme to succeed the current funding programmes in the area of education, training and youth in 2014. Similarly, the current Culture and Media programmes will be merged into a single funding instrument.

The proposal was published as a part of the proposal for the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the EU for 2014-2020. The EC proposes a new overarching programme – called „Education Europe‟ – which will bring together the current programmes in the area of education and youth, including the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP), the international Higher Education programmes such as Erasmus Mundus and Tempus, and the Youth in Action Programme. The proposed budget allocation for the programme is €15.2 billion.

The current plan is to have three main lines of action: trans-national learning mobility; co-operation activities between education institutions and the world of work, to promote the modernisation of education, innovation and entrepreneurship; and policy support, with the aim of gathering evidence on the effectiveness of education investments. The new programme for culture and media, which will encompass the current Culture Programme, along with the MEDIA and MEDIA Mundus programmes, will carry the name „Creative Europe‟, and the proposed budget allocation is EUR 1.6 billion.
