News archive - Update: The Different Programmes of FP7

The broad objectives of the Seventh Framework Programme for RTD (FP7) have been grouped into four categories: Cooperation, Ideas, People and Capacities. For each type of objective, there is a specific programme corresponding to the main areas of EU research policy. All specific programmes work together to promote and encourage the creation of European poles of (scientific) excellence.

The Seventh Framework Programme is organised in four programmes corresponding to four basic components of European research, please find more information following the specific links:

  • the specific programme of 'Cooperation' (-> for "collaborative research", structured in 10 themes/topics, more than 50 % of FP7s budget, depending on the theme there are different activities for international cooperation partner countries, i.e. the Western Balkan countries)
  • the 'Ideas' programme (-> for "frontier research", managed by the European Research Council, investigator driven, excellent research accross all fields, nationality of principal investigators doesn't matter)
  • the 'People' programme (-> for "mobility" and human potential, "Marie Curie Actions", academia-industry relation, has a strong international dimension)
  • the 'Capacities' programme (-> for "research capacity", different areas: support and coordination actions for international cooperation, science&society, regions, SMEs, research infrastructure, research potentials)
