News archive - Public Consultation on the Future EU 2020 Strategy

Before presenting a formal proposal for the EU 2020 strategy early next year, the Commission would like to hear the views of all interested parties on some suggested broad policy considerations for the future EU2020 strategy. Consultation deadline: January 15, 2010.

Background

The "EU 2020 strategy" is a vision and strategy for where the European Union should be in 2020, aiming at the EU's full recovery from the crisis, while speeding up the move towards a smart and green economy. Fostering innovation is a key factor in this strategy. EU 2020 will build on the successes obtained by the Lisbon strategy since its 2005 relaunch, which focused on growth and jobs, but will also address some of the Lisbon strategy's shortcomings.
