News archive - 8th EUSAIR Forum: EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region

The 8th EUSAIR Forum, held on May 24th and 25th, showcased the importance of cooperation and innovation in driving European integration. The event brought together in Sarajevo stakeholders from the Adriatic and Ionian regions to discuss various topics and initiatives.

 

The forum kicked off with an official opening and a high-level panel discussion on the role of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative (AII) and EUSAIR in accelerating the European integration process. Participants emphasized the need for collaboration and shared strategies to achieve greater integration.

Several sessions highlighted key pillars of the EUSAIR agenda. The Social Pillar event focused on cooperation with Croatian ministries, emphasizing the importance of addressing social issues within the region. The Blue Growth session explored emerging sectors in the blue economy, aiming to balance economic development with environmental conservation.

Discussions also revolved around the Green and Circular Economy, with a focus on territorial challenges and regional development. Participants explored policies and instruments to foster circularity, particularly in the bioeconomy and circular tourism sectors.

The event further promoted youth engagement through the EUSAIR POPRI youth competition of business ideas. Young participants showcased their innovative ideas, emphasizing sustainability, circular economy principles, and solutions to regional challenges.

Other sessions addressed topics such as sustainable agriculture, energy networks, urban mobility, and environmental quality. These sessions highlighted the need for coordinated efforts, knowledge sharing, and the adoption of innovative technologies to address climate change and enhance regional development.

The forum concluded with the AII/EUSAIR Ministerial meeting, where ministers discussed key issues and strategies. The event ended on a celebratory note, with Croatia assuming the chairmanship of AII and the EUSAIR Presidency.

The 8th EUSAIR Forum underscored the importance of regional cooperation, innovation, and sustainable development in advancing European integration. Participants expressed optimism about the potential for joint efforts to drive economic growth, create jobs, and tackle common challenges in the Adriatic and Ionian regions.
