News archive - Moving towards an Innovation Community on Sustainable Blue Economy in the Adriatic-Ionian region
The Blue Growth Innovation policies in the Adriatic-Ionian regions are currently characterized by fragmentation, with some regions ahead of others in developing knowledge-based approaches to enhance blue growth sectors in their territories. To address this, regions and countries overlooking the same seas and rivers need harmonized Blue growth policies to plan future innovation initiatives on topics such as sea transport, water pollution, energy connectivity, marine environment protection, and sustainable tourism.
To achieve this, the BLUEAIR project aims to enhance institutional capacities in the definition of a common S3 policy on Blue Growth and guarantee the alignment of local initiatives with the EUSAIR strategy through the development of a Macro-Regional S3 on Blue Growth and the establishment of a dedicated Innovation Community. By adopting a coordinated approach, this project aims to improve administrative capacities, innovativeness, and economic development for participating territories and the whole ADRION area.
The project aims to improve the competences of innovation players on Blue Growth, identify sectors of macro-regional interest, exploit potentials for transnational cooperation, and support the development of a single Macro-Regional S3 on BG in the Adriatic-Ionian region. This will be achieved by involving quadruple helix actors in the definition of a common strategic vision through enabling tools, capacity building initiatives, and effective EDP practices and instruments.
BLUEAIR offers quadruple helix actors a view of the future scenarios of Blue Growth sectors, enabling them to take advantage of the sector's transnational opportunities. This project brings together different coastal and inland territories involved in moving towards a single approach: the BLUEAIR Macro-Regional S3 on Blue Growth.
In February, a hybrid conference "Moving towards an Innovation Community on Sustainable Blue Economy in the Adriatic-Ionian region” took place in Tirana, Albania. The three-day event covered important topics related to the Blue growth smart Adriatic Ionian - BlueAir project, prospects and challenges of transnational cooperation, Blue Sustainable Solutions, alignment of the institutional framework, future challenges, and the BlueAir Innovation Strategy.
