700,000 EUR for technological innovation partnerships

The hybrid event that gathered more than 230 online participants from the region and 9 media outlets on February 7, included the opening ceremony of the First Call for Project Proposals for Support to Innovative Technological Projects focusing on the industry through public-private and private-private partnerships between the industry, associations, business networks and research and development institutions for the purpose of implementation of measures focusing on the technological transformation of small and medium-sized companies and supporting their growth and application of their innovative solutions.

The call, which disposes of a total budget of 700,000.00 EUR, focuses on the transfer of know-how and exchange of opinions with research and development organisations from the Western Balkans countries and is part of the project EU4DigitalSME, which is co-financed by the European Union and the Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ), and implemented by GIZ. The project aims to build the capacities of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the purpose of providing support to the development of the private sector through innovation and digitalisation

Interested candidates are invited to attend online sessions that will be held on February 14 and 16, 2023 at 12:00. The links for the attendance of info sessions that will be led by Snežana Tomašević, GIZ Grant Manager, are given below:

During the launch of the open call, Tomašević pointed out that it is expected to establish cooperation between the private sector and the academia:

''We expect that the call will initiate cooperation between the private sector and the academia and anticipate that there will be at least 7 such cooperation projects. Also, we expect that at least 5 of these projects will establish cooperation with other Western Balkans countries, since our goal is networking. We believe that every of these projects will generate at least one innovative solution, which would ensure that companies are competitive, growing and open for innovation. Ensuring gender equality is part of the project and we expect that at least 30% of team members will be women'', underlined Tomašević.

The call was announced by Gilles Rebattet, Head of Operations, Section for Economic Development, Infrastructure and Natural Resources of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Eva Näher, GIZ Programme Director. Mr Rebattet pointed out, among other things, how important it was to involve the academia in the digitalisation and innovation process in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whereas Ms Näher said that innovation and digitalisation could make the operations of small and medium-sized enterprises more competitive.
