News archive - Mapping "brain drain" in Serbia

With the project Mapping Serbian PhDs in Diaspora, the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade is conducting a survey of highly educated experts abroad.

Looking at the enormous “brain drain” impacting Serbia for decades now, the immediate aim of this project is to create a database of ‘our people’ in diaspora who have obtained or are currently working on a PhD abroad. Many of them already work at foreign universities, scientific institutions and major companies. One of the aims is to identify their readiness for broader, stronger and more lasting cooperation with scientific institutions and community in Serbia. Their potential for Serbia remains largely unused, with rare individual engagement, when there is any, mostly remaining unknown to the public.

The project is organized by the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, with support from the Westminster Foundation for Democracy. The gathered information will be publicly available on the Institute’s website, at anketa.ifdt.bg.ac.rs in English and in Serbian, in full compliance with the Law on Privacy.

Colleagues from the diaspora are hereby invited to fill in the survey, and kindly requested to forward it to their friends and colleagues.

The survey is bilingual, in Serbian and English.
