News archive - EC opens consultation on EU Action Plan on restoring sustainable carbon cycles
On 9 September 2021, the European Commission opened a public consultation on its forthcoming Action Plan on restoring sustainable carbon cycles.
The initiative aims to develop a long-term vision for sustainable carbon cycles including capture, storage, and use of CO2 in a climate-neutral EU economy, and to kick-start the development of technological and nature-based solutions. The Action Plan, a Commission Communication, is scheduled for December 2021. The Communication will address how to foster the research and deployment of technological solutions and how to create a competitive market for the industrial capture, storage, and use of carbon. The Innovation Fund, LIFE projects and Horizon Europe are important tools to support the early development of these technologies.
