Questions about the position of Central and Eastern Europe in relation to European and global geographies continue to be relevant and are attracting increasing scholarly interest. Long considered peripheral to wider European geographies, Central and Eastern Europe is highly diverse with changing histories of dependence, domination, and ambivalent entanglements in global colonial relations. In recent years theoretical insights from postsocialist, postcolonial, postdependence and decolonial thinkers have enriched academic discussions and contributed to the pushback of the epistemic marginalisation of Central and Eastern Europe. In migration studies, critical discussions around coloniality and racism are overdue. This online workshop hopes to merge the recent developments in decolonial thinking on CEE with a focus on migration, particularly across race, gender, sexuality and class. 

Possible topics might include, but are not limited to:

• Postcolonial, postsocialist, decolonial and postdependence perspectives on migration (and migration studies) in CEE
• Race, gender, sexuality and class in migration to/from/within CEE
• Borders, coloniality and migration in relation to CEE
• Intersectional challenges in thinking about CEE migrations
• Decolonising methodologies in researching migration to/from/within CEE 

Interested participants are invited to send abstracts of no more than 250 words to Kasia Narkowicz (k.narkowicz@mdx.ac.uk), Anna Gawlewicz (Anna.Gawlewicz@glasgow.ac.uk) and Konrad Pędziwiatr (pedziwik@uek.krakow.pl) by 17 Sept 2021. They will be notified by the end of September if their paper has been accepted for the session. The workshop is envisioned to lead to an edited collection.

Organisers: Postdependence Geographies in Central and Eastern Europe (PostCEE) is a Regional Studies Association (RSA) funded research network connecting scholars and practitioners who work on CEE geographies and are interested in postcolonial and decolonial perspectives in and on the region. The network investigates how global coloniality plays out in the different geographies of the CEE region by providing a platform to explore issues around difference, identity, borders, migration and border thinking. It is run by Dr Kasia Narkowicz, Dr Anna Gawlewicz and Dr hab. Konrad Pędziwiatr.
