News archive - Joint EIT Community Call for Higher Education Institutions to boost the circular economy in Western Balkans

EIT Community joins forces to foster the transition to a more green and circular economy in Western Balkans

EIT RawMaterials together with EIT Food, EIT Digital and EIT Climate-KIC open a call for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Western Balkans. The EIT Community aims to boost the transition to a Circular Economy in Western Balkans and unlock innovation capacities of Higher Education Institutions. The Call is open for HEIs to strengthen their innovation and entrepreneurship activities and connect to the overarching HEI initiative coordinated by EIT RawMaterials.

The circular economy concept is of crucial importance to post-pandemic recovery. Countries of Western Balkans are working to improve waste management approaches and could benefit from the circular economy approaches, which consider the systemic interdependencies and go beyond the tendency to look merely at recycling rates. The circular economy is also an essential tool to achieve the EU Green Deal goal for a carbon-neutral Europe.

The EIT Community aims to bolster collaboration and enhance the circular economy approach in the region. Together, we will be exploring the learnings around a green and circular economy as an umbrella approach to boost the economy in a post-pandemic world and enhance capacities and foster knowledge-sharing in the Western Balkans.

Unlocking innovation potential of Higher Education Institutions

EIT  Community invites non-EIT members representing Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from the Western Balkan region that have a specific connection through education and research to the Circular Economy and towards any of the involved EIT Community’s fields indicated in the Call text to apply and participate within this programme.

Eligible countries include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
