News archive - The second week of the 18th edition EURegionsWeek has come to an end

Together with over 500 partners’ sessions, this week hosted most of the main sessions of the event.

On 12 October, 18 young Europeans participated in a Citizens' dialogue with Commissioner Ferreira. Thirteen youngsters were on stage and five others in remote: among them, on the one hand, students from five different member states (Greece, Italy, Spain, Croatia and Bulgaria), participating to the At School of Open Cohesion (ASOC) programme; and, on the other hand, Young Journalist students.

The lively exchange turned around the three main topics of the EURegionsWeek:

  • Empowering citizens
  • Cohesion and cooperation
  • Green Europe

On 13 October the winners of the 2020 Megalizzi – Niedzielski prize for aspiring journalists have been announced: Anastasia Lopez from Austria and Francisco Sezinando from Portugal. Anastasia and Francisco received the prize for their dedication to quality journalism and attachment to EU values.

On 14 October Director General Marc Lemaitre presented the 2020 Regiostars Awards and unveiled the winners: the project ESA BIC Portugal from Centro Region in Portugal won in the Smart growth category, Take the Cool Food Challenge (Interreg Channel programme) won in the Sustainable growth category, E-Schools (Croatia) won the Inclusive growth category and the project SHICC (Interreg North West Europe programme) won in the Urban development category. For the topic of the year, 30 years of Interreg, the prize was awarded to the project Energy@school, financed by the programme Interreg Central Europe. Finally, the public choice award went to the project Time is now for Change (Lithuania-Poland). In this first ever digital ceremony, prizes were announced by Commissioners Ferreira, Gentiloni, Sinkevicius, Schmit, Jourova, Gabriel and Spokeperson Mamer.
