News archive - EC invites feedback on new Roadmap for future of the ERA

In preparation of its upcoming Communication on the European Research Area (ERA), the European Commission (EC) is inviting the public to provide feedback on the Roadmap for the new ERA Communication via its 'Have Your Say' platform.

ERA aims to strengthen the coordination, quality and impact of the research and innovation ecosystem in the EU and in Member States. According to the Commission, its Communication, which is expected to be published in the third quarter of 2020, will therefore aim to relaunch the European Research Area in order to make it future-proof and enable to address the major challenges related to the twin digital and green transition, and increase Europe’s resilience, following the Covid-19 crisis.

In its conclusions on ERA governance of November 2018, the Competitiveness Council had invited the Commission to produce a new ERA Communication by mid-2020. The Communication is also part of Commissioner Gabriel’s mission letter, and of the Commission's Work Programme.

The EC will take the feedback received into account for further development and fine tuning of the initiative. The Commission will summarise the input received in a synopsis report explaining how the input will be taken on board and, if applicable, why certain suggestions can't be taken up.

Feedback can be provided until 3 August 2020.
