Serbia was recognized for devising and implementing innovative technological solutions and electronic services aimed to achieve optimal coordination of health care, education, security and other key systems in times of crisis, providing timely and accurate information to citizens, and continuous services to citizens and the economy.

The public sector innovation observers from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) monitors governments’ innovative responses to the crisis caused by COVID-19. OECD’s official website (https://oecd-opsi.org/covid-response/ ) presents the solutions implemented in the Republic of Serbia.

With 22 innovative solutions, Serbia is one of the five countries in the world with the highest number of innovations. In the analysis published on 28 May on the OECD website, the solutions and applications like “Doniraj plazmu” (Donate Plasma), “Budi volonter” (Become a Volunteer), and “Digitalna Solidarnost”(Digital Solidarity), which were implemented with the support of the Good Governance Fund and the United Kingdom Programme and the United Nations Development Agency (UNDP), the automatic information service COVID-19 (chatbot), as well as “Moja ucionica”, “Moja skola”, “eVrtic”, “eUpis”, the initiative to donate computers to children from socially disadvantaged families and other solutions as an integrated response of the education system, were highlighted as examples of good practice.

The Republic of Serbia Prime Minister, Ana Brnabić, stated on this occasion that innovative thinking was a necessary approach in a critical situation and that previous investments in technology and innovations were actually investments in the resilience and agility of our system.

Thanks to these results, Serbia was invited to participate in the OECD Declaration on Public Sector Innovation.

This declaration was signed in 2019 by 35 OECD member countries and Serbia would be one of the few countries to be able to join even if it is not a member. The document aims to encourage, support and strengthen innovation in the public sector and affirm an innovative approach in solving old and new challenges.
