News archive - EC launches call for experts to assist with tasks for Innovation Fund

The European Commission (EC) has launced a call for experts to assist the European Commission with tasks for the Innovation Fund. The call was published on 31 January 2020.

The Innovation Fund is one of the first and of the largest globally funding instruments of the European Green Deal, pooling together around €10bn until 2030. It will support innovative low-carbon technologies and processes in many and diverse sectors: production of renewable energy, carbon capture and use and storage (CCUS), energy intensive industries, including producing products substituting carbon intensive ones, and energy storage. The Innovation Fund is aimed at companies and their project proposals will be assessed based on comprehensive selection criteria emphasising business-readiness, innovation and emission reduction potential.

DG Climate Action and the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) are now looking for experts who will:

evaluate the applications according to the five selection criteria of the Innovation Fund: GHG emission avoidance; degree of innovation; project maturity; scalability and cost efficiency.
undertake or review the technical and financial due diligence of innovative investment proposals: technical scope, costs, financing, implementation, operation, environmental impact, procurement procedures etc.
support the follow-up and implementation of the projects financed by the Innovation Fund.

Early application (by March 2020) is encouraged: the first experts are to be selected in June/July 2020 to start working as of November 2020. Experts already registered in the Funding and Tenders Portal expert database are invited to update their area of expertise and explicitly refer to the Innovation Fund: https://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/experts/web/idashboard.

The selection will be made from the database, based on professional and technical capacity and absence of conflict of interest. Language skills, geographical balance, sector balance and gender balance will also be considered.
