News archive - Final conference of COST Targeted Network “Capacity building in forest and governance” (CAPABAL)
The CAPABAL network was approved in the autumn of 2014, with the aim of enhancing young scientists' and future policy makers' professional skills. The network also developed access to networks and emerging research in the field of forestry and forest management in the Western Balkan region. CAPABAL aimed to achieve sustainable forest management and governance, and promote economic development in the area.
The final conference of this COST Targeted Network took place in Brdo, Slovenia, on 12-14 September.
Throughout its lifetime the CAPABAL Targeted Network has made excellent use of the COST networking tools, which has maximised cooperation between relevant stakeholders in forest management in the Western Balkan region. The network facilitated a total of 11 Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs), which focused on a variety of topics including new initiatives in national forest policies in the Western Balkans and a comparative evaluation of state forest institutions in the region.
This positive result was reflected in the final conference sessions, which demonstrated dedicated engagement by all participants. It is clear that CAPABAL has contributed to lowering barriers, creating durable ties and fostering exchange of good practice in forestry management in the Western Balkans.
