News archive - [Event review] Smart Specialisation in the Western Balkans: Benefiting from EU Experience

Under the auspices of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), a training for national smart specialisation teams from Western Balkan countries (WBC) took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 11 and 12 April 2018.

During the event, teams from Serbia and Montenegro were trained on how to pursue the Entrepreneurial Discovery Process (EDP) critical for the smart specialisation process. Teams from the other WBC were trained on the goals and objectives of smart specialisation, on the importance and structure of the EDP, on possibilities for technical assistance from JRC, and on the next steps in the smart specialisation process.

The training took place at the Ljubljana Technology Park. Experts from the technology park and from other support organisations presented the Slovenian entrepreneurial ecosystem, thus giving participants from WBC an overview on experiences and good practices on how to promote entrepreneurship and innovation under the umbrella of the smart specialisation approach. Further, the experience of the smart specialisation processes in Slovenia, Croatia and Poland was presented to participants from WBC countries.
