Training workshop is designed with the aim to:

• Provide state of the art introduction into theory and practice of innovation policy with special reference to the EU
• Understand the evolution of the EU innovation polices, its changing rationale and models
• Understand the grounding, strengths and weaknesses of the current S3 approaches as one of the major frameworks of the EU innovation policy
• Explore Croatian innovation policy in a comparative perspective

The first two days will:  provide an overview of theoretical issues which link research on growth and innovation with innovation policy studies; explore the existing approaches to analysis of design and evaluation of innovation policies, and give an overview of implementation issues on the experiences of the EU innovation policy with special reference to the S3 related processes and activities. The main part of the workshop is exploration of Croatian innovation policy in all three dimensions: its theoretical basis, design issues and implementation opportunities and challenges. A part of each day program is devoted to analysis and discussion of these issues in Croatia through panels, participants’ presentations and research papers.

Training workshop is open to policy makers, members of the academic community and business people from Croatia who are interested in these topics. Workshop is also open to stakeholders from the selected SEE countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, FYRO Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia).

Training workshop will work in four modes: lectures, panel discussions, participants’ presentations in teams on given topics and presentations of selected research papers by participants.

Taking into consideration that the workshop is organised within the capacity building project, we invite participants to send and present their own research papers as part of the workshop. Selection committee will decide on the papers which will be presented. If the number of submitted papers will exceed number of selected papers, we will organise poster session where they can be presented.

LECTURERS

Professor Jakob Edler is Executive Director of MIoIR (Manchester Institute of Innovation Research) at the Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, UK and Professor of Innovation Policy and Strategy.

Professor Stefan Khulman is Chair of the Department of Science, Technology and Policy Studies (STəPS) at University of Twente, Netherlands and leader of the Twente Graduate School programme “Governance of Knowledge and Innovation”.

Dr George Tsekouras is Principal Research Fellow at CENTRIM – Centre for Innovation Management University of Brighton who has been involved in numerous EU and UK funded research projects in innovation management and policy.

Professor Slavo Radošević is Professor of Industry and Innovation Studies at UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) with long-standing experience in research on science, technology and innovation in CEE countries. Currently he is a special advisor to the EC Commissioner for Regional and Urban Policy.

René Wintjes is Senior Research Fellow at UNU-MERIT, active in two research groups: Innovation Systems Indicators and Policy (as coordinator) and ICT-enabled Innovation and Societal Transformation.

Zoran Aralica is Senior Research Associate at Institute of Economics, Zagreb, lecturer on Innovation management and technological change course at VERN Polytechnic and a coordinator of the SmartEIZ project.

MODERATORS

Dr Nicoletta Corrocher (tbc) is Lecturer at Department of Management and Technology and Research fellow at ICRIOS (The Invernizzi Center for Research on Innovation, Organization, Strategy and Entrepreneurship) at Università Bocconi, Milan.

Dr Randolph Bruno, Senior Lecturer at UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES). His research is in the field of comparative as well as development economics, with a focus on applied industrial and corporate change.
