News archive - [Event Review] XVII International Symposium “Feed Technology” in Novi Sad
On 25-27 October, the 12th edition of the biannual International feed technology symposium in Novi Sad gathered researchers from main scientific institutions of Serbia and its neighboring countries as well as from the United States of America. Besides providing a platform for scientific exchange between university and research institute members, the event also attracted many representatives from the industrial world, thus creating an important forum between and among the academia, producers as well as distributors.
In the plenary lectures, leading scientists examined current challenges in the branch such as mycotoxins (scientific term for mold) in food or feed, the use of nanotechnology in feed or the role of food processing for healthy and sustainable diets. The highly informative talks were followed by a round table discussion on European projects including examples of best practices. The latter in particular brought about new international partnerships and agreements for project proposals. The side event “food fair” on the first day also witnessed good attendance where many local food producers offered a taste of their products and contributed to drawing the wider audience’s attention to the importance of feed science.
The second and third day of the symposium were dedicated to feed technology, including six sessions on related subjects as well as many scientific and practical lectures. Young scientists and students had the chance to present their work in a poster exhibition where the best presentation was awarded. Among the participants was also a high number of Serbian manufacturers, who actively discussed with colleagues from other European countries especially in the round table session on European trends in feed production.
The XVII International Symposium “Feed technology” emphasised the challenges in feed research, in particula feed technology, processing and engineering. It also successfully promoted international collaboration and networking within the branch.
The symposium was organised by the Institute of Food Technology in Novi Sad (FINS), and took place alongside the III International Congress on Food Technology, Quality and Safety.
