News archive - [Event Announcement and Call for Application] DIBSS / Dubrovnik International Bioethics Summer School - Deadline: 10 July 2016

Continuous progress in life-sciences, medicine and biotechnology has provided us access to new ways of treating, preventing and even curing human diseases. As the impact of these advancements on individuals, communities, and societies grows, so does the importance of bioethics, a field which emerged about fifty years ago. Through both a theoretical and a practical endeavor, bioethics allows us to discuss and understand our deep moral concerns, fears, and hopes regarding the impact of medical sciences and biotechnological advancements on our lives.

Global Bioethics Initiative New York, University of Zagreb School of Medicine and Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik are organizing Dubrovnik International Bioethics Summer School which will be held from August 5th – August 14th 2016 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The school is a mirror partnership project organized together with New York International Bioethics Summer School which will be held from July 11th – 22nd at Manhattan, at premises of New York Society for Ethical Culture.

Dubrovnik International Bioethics Summer School will address different bioethical problems in the context of emerging global society. The summer school aims at an interdisciplinary debate, especially between: clinical medicine and public health, law, philosophy, sociology and political sciences, psychology, psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Goal of the Dubrovnik International Bioethics Summer School is to provide interested students and professionals with information pertaining to different aspects of bioethical issues encouraging international debates at the intersection of health, biotechnology and medicine.

The Dubrovnik International Bioethics Summer School in Croatia is offering partial scholarships to learn more about bioethical problems in the context of emerging global society this over the summer! Through a series of seminars, field trips, and evening events with guest speakers as well as attendance to the conference “Price of Health” ­ you increase your knowledge on Bioethics and create valuable contacts for the future.

All this while experiencing one of the most scenic parts of Croatia ­ Dubrovnik!
You will also receive a Global Bioethics Graduate Certificate upon completion of the course which includes a graduation ceremony, as well as credits towards your University studies.

The deadline to apply to the Summer School is 10 July 2016.

The deadline to apply for a scholarship is 25 June 2016.

All participants will be able to attend special program - conference "Price of Health" during the final week of the program on August 12th and 14th.

Following the completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate in Global Bioethics during a graduation ceremony and banquet.

Students may request credits from their home educational institutions. The awarding of credits is at the discretion of each student’s institution.
