RRPP Conference “Migration and Policy Developments in Bosnia-Herzegovina” held in Sarajevo on 23 March 2014
Organized by the Center for Economic Development and Research (CEDAR) in cooperation with CESI Centre, the event constituted the first attempt to promote the research results of the RRPP-funded project “Migration and Women Empowerment in the Western Balkans”. The discussions between governmental representatives and participating researchers on migration policy in BiH shall continue in monthly meetings to be coordinated by CEDAR. The conference drew substantial media attention.

Regional Workshop “Migration and Development in the Western Balkans” in Elbasan, Albania
The aim of the RRPP regional workshop in Elbasan was to present the relevant focus group findings highlighting the role of migration and its impact on women empowerment in the Western Balkan countries. Its media coverage is also available on RRPP website.

Scientific Research Potential in Bosnia and Herzegovina on BHT1
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s television station, BHT1, aired on 28 October 2013 a documentary entitled “POTENCIJAL”. Given the fact that an increasing number of young and capable researchers in BiH leave their alma mater to work at universities abroad or choose to conduct research for different NGOs, the documentary tries to unveil the reasons behind this trend.

The Study on "Transnational Networks, Transnational Entrepreneurship and the Role of the State: the Cases of Serbia and Albania" is now online
This is the first study to conduct an empirical investigation of the relationship between migration and development in Serbia and Albania. It thus contributes to debates focusing on the developmental potential of Diaspora networks. Empirical findings organised across different levels of analysis (micro, macro and meso), as well as the typologies of “paths to entrepreneurship” deserve particular attention.

Research Results are now online: Migration and its Impacts from the Perspective of the Economic Development of the Home Country: with Special Reference to Kosova
The varied research outcomes of this RRPP-funded project show that the migration remains relatively high and is preconditioned by the low level of income. However, the analysis of the determinants of the decision to return proves that Kosovan households are selective in their return migration behaviour.

IDM is an independent, non-governmental organization, working to strengthen the civil society and Albania’s integration processes. It assists reforming and the consolidation of good governance as well as inclusive policy-making processes.

Research Results Summary of the RRPP Funded Project: "Migration and Development in Albania and Macedonia: The Effects of Remittances on Education and Health of Family Members Left Behind" is now online
The main research findings center around the impact of parental migration on children`s education and health, particulraly their obesity and growth, as well as the analysis of relevant migration policies. The latter prove to be more general rather than dealing with the intricacies of the impact of migration and remittances on the socio-economic development in Albania and Macedonia.

Research Results Summary of the RRPP Funded Project "The Impact of Migration on Women Empowerment in Western Balkan Countries" is now online
The project investigates how migration has acted as a catalyst for expanding the opportunities of women economically, socially and in inter-personal relations. It asks particularly whether own migration or migration of (male) family members have any impact on the woman’s empowerment in traditionally patriarchal societies of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia.

Four country-specific policy briefs point out main characteristics of international media assistance in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Macedonia, its challenges and successes. They have been prepared as a part of the project "Development of Functional Media Institutions in Western Balkans - A Comparative Study" implemented in 2012 and 2013.

Now online: Working Paper Series on Media Assistance in the Western Balkan countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia
The main question guiding this working paper series is whether ‘models’ of media systems that have developed in the West can be exported to other countries, where democracy is less consolidated.
